Willow Run 2-Man Match Play League
The Willow Run 2-Man Match Play League consists of 28 two-man teams. Teams are divided into two divisions, consisting of 14 teams each. Teams will play every team within their division once throughout the 13 week regular season. Divisions are based upon total team handicap.
The Willow Run 2-Man Match Play League regular season starts on Wednesday, May 5 and runs through Wednesday, August 4. Playoffs begin August 11 and run through September 1.
Men will play from the BLUE Tees. Seniors (55+) will play from the WHITE Tees.
- Yearly dues for the Willow Run 2-Man Match Play League are $100.00 per person.
- Players MUST have a USGA GHIN Handicap in order to participate.
- Payouts will be in the form of GreatLIFE Golf Shop Credit, which can be used to purchase merchandise from the Willow Run Golf Shop.
- The top 4 teams in each division will be paid out at the end of the regular season.
- The playoff Champions, Runners-Up, Third Place, and Fourth Place teams will be paid out after the tournament.
The format is 9-hole, four-ball match play, with two teammates playing head to head against another team. Players use their net score in this league. Low handicap from Team A plays against low handicap on Team B. The individual that wins the hole receives 1 point for their team; if the individuals tie the hole, each team receives half a point. The team with the most points at the end of the match is awarded an additional point for a maximum possible total of 20 points per match. We use 80% of each player’s handicap to compute how many strokes he gets per hole. Each team plays all nine holes every match.
A four-week bracket-style playoff will begin after completion of the regular season and culminate in championship and 3rd place matches. Every team will qualify for the playoffs and will be seeded 1 through 14 based on their total regular season points with the top teams in each division receiving a first-round bye. Each team will compete to advance to the final week. If teams are unable to play their playoff match on the scheduled day, they have until the next week of scheduled matches to make up their match (one week). Any matches not made up by the start of the following week’s matches will result in a coin flip to decide the winner.
Willow Run 2-Man Match Play League matches are played in accordance with the USGA Handicap System. All players and substitute players must have an active GHIN Handicap to play. Teams/players are responsible for finding their own subs. Team/players MUST notify Willow Run staff a minimum of 24 hours before the start of their match of any/all substitute players. Teams/players that fail to notify Willow Run of their subs within 24 hours of their match starting time will have said sub play to a zero handicap. A list of subs is available through the Willow Run Men’s Golf Association (WRMGA) and we will make every effort to help connect you with a sub, but it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to cover your absence. Willow Run will not be held responsible if a sub cannot be found. ALL SUBS MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE GHIN HANDICAP OR THEY WILL PLAY TO A ZERO HANDICAP.
*All non-member subs must pay for green fees and applicable cart fees.
PLAYOFF SEEDING TIEBREAKER
In the event of a tie, when deciding which team advances to the playoffs and playoff seedings, ties are decided based on head-to-head matches. If there is still a tie after comparing head-to-head matches, the advancing team is determined by (in order):
- Total points from the last 3 weeks of play
- Total points from the last week of play
PLAYOFF MATCH TIEBREAKERS
The winner of playoff matches resulting in a tie will be determined based on the USGA preferred tie-break method. The advancing team is determined by (in order):
- Total points from the last 6 holes
- Total points from the last 3 holes
- Total points from the last hole
- Handicap hole difficulty
GHIN Handicaps are used to determine your handicap for league play. You receive 80% of your handicap. Low handicap player will play at scratch and his opponent plays the difference from his opponent handicap. Maximum handicap index 27.0.
All League players must find a sub if they are unable to play. If a team cannot play, they forfeit the week. The forfeiting team gets zero points and the team winning by forfeit gets 7 points. If both teams are absent, the match must be made up within two weeks. If the match has not been made up within two weeks both teams get zero points for the week. If players cannot decide on a time to play, the standing default tee time is 5:00 PM on the final day of the two-week make-up period (for example, 5:00 PM Tuesday to make up a match originally scheduled for the previous Wednesday).
Players are responsible to keep honest and accurate scores on the Golf Genius App as that is our official scorecard. Willow Run staff will be responsible for posting all Willow Run 2-Man Match Play League scores. For handicap purposes, each player must turn in their score cards to Golf Genius and Willow Run staff will post scores along with the results. Penalty scores may be assessed to players who, outside of Willow Run 2-Man Match Play League, are found to be posting scores incorrectly or who are not posting their scores for handicap purposes.
League play is not canceled (even for rain) unless the course is unplayable or there is lightning. Players should call ahead when conditions are questionable to confirm the status of play. If a league night is canceled, teams will play the same match the following week.
NOTE: If the weather turns inclement after play has begun, players are expected to wait until the weather clears and complete the match that day. If weather does not allow the match to be finished that day, the remaining holes to be played are halved unless both teams agree to play them later and do so within two weeks of the original date.
